What is Offbeat Orbit?

Offbeat Orbit is a blog of style, politics, music, and other musings of twenty year old Ashley Reese (that would be me).

I could have easily made Offbeat Orbit a typical fashion/lifestyle blog, documenting my colorful ensembles and exciting outings at parties and kitschy vintage shops.  Several others across the blogosphere have done just that with great success, but I knew that I wouldn’t be satisfied sticking to a singular narrative.  I give up a piece of myself when I write, even when I write about seemingly trivial things like what was going through my mind when I decided to pick up a pair of Russian nesting doll earrings or why I wear my hair in a natural hairstyle.  That same piece of myself may contemplate wearing neon colored tights one moment and find itself embroiled in a discussion about race, gender, and current events the next.  And after all that , that little piece will lead me to scour my iTunes library and create the perfect playlist to listen to when riding on the Tube.

For me, fashion, politics, and music have all worked hand in hand in establishing what makes me who I am, so this blog is a collaboration of just that.
